Description

Casa Isolani, charming bed and breakfast at Palazzo Isolani: to sleep in beauty. In the historic centre of Bologna, a few steps away from the two Towers and from Piazza Maggiore, close to the monumental complex of the Seven Churches, that are just a few yards away. The rooms are on the top floor of the enchanting 18th century Palazzo Isolani, which belongs to one of the oldest families in Bologna. Claudio Abbado, the conductor, fell in love with it instantly and lived there for more than ten years.

ROOMS:

ALTANA ROOM: The four windows offer luminosity and a panoramic view of 360° over Bologna. This delightful double room is situated on the top floor, in the upper part of the 18th century period residence belonging to the historic Isolani family of Bologna. When you open all the windows at once, there is a marvellous view of the city. Bright and spacious room with a double bed and a bathroom with shower and bathtub.
The sleeping area and the bathroom are connected by a charming wooden staircase, not advisable for those with reduced mobility.

SANTO STEFANO ROOM: Two separate sleeping areas, with the possibility of a third bed, offers an enchanting view of Piazza Santo Stefano. Shower with panoramic view of the square. It is reached by going through the shared living room with terrace. The main bedroom has the possibility of two single beds (which can be joined as a double) with view of Piazza Santo Stefano. The second sleeping area with a third bed, is in a pretty loft overlooking a shared terrace. The triangular-shaped square of Santo Stefano street, which can be admired from the window and from the bathroom, is one of the most characteristic views of Bologna.
A curiosity: the name Piazza Santo Stefano does not appear on the city street map, although it is commonly used by the people of Bologna.

DUE TORRI ROOM: A horizontal window frames two towers, symbol of Bologna: from this room you can enjoy the view from the first light of dawn. The Tower of the Donkeys (Torre degli Asinelli) takes its name from an influential 12th-century Bologna family who are said to have built it in 1119. It is 97 meters high with 498 wooden steps to climb in order to enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Bologna. The smaller of the two towers is Garisenda Tower (Torre Garisenda), which takes its name from another Ghibelline family of the day, the Garisenda. It is 48 meters high, but in Dante’s time, who quotes it in his sonnet on the Gaarisenda in 1287 and in Canto XXXI of Inferno, it was 60 meters high. Of the two Towers, only that of the Donkeys can be visited.

THE MEZZO ROOM: Comfortable room close to the living area. It has no windows but two skylights on the ceiling, between the wooden beams, offering a romantic view of the sky of Bologna. Crossing the threshold of this room is almost like entering a nest, full of the atmosphere created by the massive wooden beams. The beams recall the style of the portico of Corte Isolani, a few steps away, one of the loveliest examples of Bologna’s Gothic-Romanesque architecture. The history of Corte Isolani is wrapped in a legend. The wooden portico’s ceiling is pierced by three arrows. It is said that three brigands were about to kill a gentleman and that a girl appeared naked before them, distracting them so that the three arrows hit the roof, thus saving his life.
