The Ransanne Family owned this castle in 1480, under the reign of Louis XI. It was probably built on an ancient castle ruins. In the XV century, De Losme Family also owned the fiefdom. It is certain that the coat of arms at the entry of the tour belonged to this family.
In 1530, the castle becomes François Lebreton property who was the King’s lawyer and mayor of Saintes. The Lebreton kept it until 1763 when Claud – Mathieu Mac Nemara (former captain of the King’s naval vessels) becomes the owner. 
Even though the castle’s owners changed a lot during centuries, its nature has always been preserved. The actual owners bought it in the 90’s, the castle looked glum and needed some work to be done. 

Beginning of the 21st century, the castle started to look better. We took up the challenge thanks to our love for beautiful stone buildings and with the help of the organization responsible for the preservation of historical monuments.
2 years of scaffolding! 10 years of work! Roof, structure, flooring, walls, stones stairs, doors, forged lock, woodwork, everything was deeply refurbished. Today you feel so comfortable that you wouldn’t imagine all the work that was made. 

Gardens and Parks

The castle is located in the heart of a 170 hectare park. During the renovation in the 90’s, the owners decided to start from outside. We are crazy of orchards that’s why there are a lot of apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees and plum trees. The garden is full of flowers and vegetables, roses, figs, a wonderful collection of hydrangeas. In the park, there are some rare species of oak trees and a beautiful range of maples. The chicken enclosed plot is generously flowered by ramblers. You can have access to it through the enclosed garden, just after the refurbished dovecote and the orangery.
