Description
Bugøynes (in Finnish Pykeijä) is a small village in Sør-Varanger municipality in Finnmark county, Northern Norway.
If you are coming from Finland, the distance to the village from Neiden (in Finnish Näätämö) is 90 km, and from Nuorgam about 100 km. Kirkenes (in Finnish Kirkkoniemi), the center town of Sør-Varangermunicipality is about 120 km from Bugøynes. The city is among others the northernmost point on the Hurtigruten itinerary. On the other side of the Varangerfjord, facing Bugøynes, at a distance of 100 km lies Vadsø (in Finnish Vesisaari).
Thanks to the location on the tip of a cape, and the presence of the Arctic Ocean, which surrounds on all sides the small fishing village,Bugøynes shares a very exotic appearance. With its 200 inhabitants, the village is very international, and offers a dwelling place for people of almost 10 different nationalities. The old Finnish language of the village, which was originally bought to the village by the Finnish immigrants, who settled down here more than 100 years ago, ?reminds of Meänkieli ?(„our language”), the language spoken in the northernmost part of Sweden. The old Finnish language is still in use as the great majority of the inhabitants have Finnish descendants. It is best preserved through the Finnish tourists and employees, who continuously add new words to the old local vocabulary, which thus is in a continuous use.

Gas station
There is no gas station in the village, fuel worth buying either in Näätämö or in Nuorgam.
Bugøynes has one local food shop and a post office open all year around. Typical local foods are the king crab, various sea fishes and the Norwegian brownish goat cheese.
The small and cozy cabins (9 m²) suitable for 2-3 persons are located on the white sandy beach of the Arctic Ocean, where the mesmerizing sound of the waves rocks you in a sweet dream. The cabins have electrical heating, shower and the toilets are next to the sauna (Jäämeren sauna). On the main house you find a small kitchen and fridges with small freeze boxes, with books and games to lend.

How to get there?
You can reach Bugøynes in many ways:
By car: If you are coming from South Finland, you can either drive through Ivalo-Näätämö-Neiden and take the E6 road heading north around 40 km, then follow the road sign on your right to the village (20 km from the main road); or drive through Ivalo-Nuorgam-Skiippagurra, then follow the E6 road towards Kirkenes, and after 60 km the road indicators on your left will lead you to the village.
By plane + rent car/take local bus: Fly through Oslo to Ivalo or Kirkenes. Norwegian Airlines and Finnair both have flights to Ivalo, while flying to Kirkenes is easy with SAS or Norwegian Airlines. You can rent a car from both airports. From Kirkenes there are regularly bus services daily (Boreal Bus, line 64) that take you to Brannsletta - crossroad to village. From Brannsletta is a bus service on mondays, wednesdays, fridays and sundays to Bugøynes (Flexx bus 825). We can also come pick you by car from Brannsletta to the village if necessary.
